Temperature Guage Phenomenon

I'm not sure what the deal is here but I'm hoping someone on the list
will make some sense of it. I recently changed my route into work to
include more highway and less stoplights. To get onto the highway
there is a long right-handed descending on-ramp. Well, every
morning I become Colin McRae for about thirty seconds and take the
curving on-ramp as quickly as I can, making my Pirellis squeal with
delight (at least I think it's delight). Anyway, a few mornings ago I
noticed that the temperature gauge on my digital dash seemed to be
returning from the high temp area back to normal at the bottom of the
ramp. Well, I wasn't sure if it was my imagination so this morning I
took the ramp as fast as I could and kept my eye on the temp gauge
to see what it would do. Sure enough, as the turn sharpened and my
speed increased, the markings on the digital gauge visibly slid to
the right. By the time I was at the bottom of the ramp, the markings
were off the scale and the temp gauge started to blink for a second.
Once I straightened the car out, the marks immediately reappeared
and marched across the gauge to the left, finally coming to rest at
normal operating temperature. So what's going on here? Is this a
function of the gauge, a sensor in the rad, the result of coolant
sloshing around during the turn? What's up?
