Do check the fluhr page (I bookmarked it).
The '82 is definately a distant second to the '87. The 82 has methinks a
2.1 litre, cable clutch, old style dash and the Rabbit-like electrical
system (which is to say, not good).
The 87 if it has the 2.3 is an 87.5 model and should have disc brakes on
the rear, CIS-III injection with the two-piece manifold and 15hp more
than the 2.2 found in 86 models. Probably has a digital dash which
either you love or hate. The 87.5 is the best CGT to get, IMHO. I'm
turning mine into one :)
Yes, they are essentially a 4000 and share many of the same parts. Some
surprising differences are the hood (?), and windshield. 4kQ parts are
also somewhat interchangeable (bumper, frt lights,). It's the best of
both worlds really: 4k reliability and easy maintenance with the 5k
engine and without the Q's added weight. We're starting to see more of
them in the junkyard so parts are getting more affordable. They are very
sturdy like the 4kQ and over-engineered in some respects. I certainly
like mine.
