Must agree with the advice that standing on principle is going to cost you
more in stress than any financial recovery will get you.

After reading the first part of the message I was going to recommend the
electronic transfer of funds from bank to bank.  That way neither you nor
the buyer touches the money.  We do that quite regularly in the boat
business, but we do run in to banks that don't trust other banks.
