"A" pillar pods for gauges

A magazine devoted to recreational vehicles has published a product
evaluation of "A" pillar pods for mounting single and multiple gauges.

The magazine is Trailer Life, April, 1999, page 64. It is commonly
available at newsstands throughout the USA. Libraries will help you find it.

Only one manufacturer is covered: Auto Meter Products, Inc., Dpt. TL, 413
West Elm Street, Sycamore, Illinois 60178; phone (815)895-8141.

This 2 page evaluation contains pictures and specifications of the product,
with model numbers and prices. Without gauges, the prices range between $25
and $30, depending on the number of pods (one to three) and the specific
truck it is designed to fit.

In summary, the company makes pillar covers with molded-in pods. These snap
in and replace the vehicles' original pillar cover. Currently the company
offers models to fit Chevy/GMC, Dodge and Ford trucks between 1987 and
1997. Most of these trucks have 2' "A" pillars. Several are 2-5/8 and one
is 2-1/8.

The company offers 12 "Z" series black face 2 inch gauges of many types,
including a combo vacuum-boost gauge. Another series offers white faces and
red dial needles. The pillar units are designed to accept electric type
gauges, not mechanical gauges with a long tube attached.

I am posting this because I have recently seen several listers asking about
the availability of such pillar mounts, and I assume that such listers will
consider acquiring these units and adapting them to the Audi "A" pillar,
after reviewing the literature.
