Re: Audi/cracked oil pan

A bit astray from Audi specifically, but my buddy's MB experienced a
nicely cracked aluminum pan a coupel of summers ago. I guess his friend
thought the curb (kerb) was lower than it really was or something.

Anyway, that pan cost him $600. He called his insurance to see if it
was worth claiming the "accident", and they told him it wasn't (due to
deductible, increased premiums). When he moved and needed to get
different insurance he found out the ins co had recorded the "incident"
as an at-fault loss on his file and his rates are now higher!!!

PS I agree that the service writer saying "it's a common problem" was
sloppy at best - that certainly would seem to lay the groundwork for a
recall/defective design claim. Whether it was or not.
