Re: oil consumption 95 90q V6
My '93 90S had an oil change in January, 3quarts of Mobil 1 10W30 and 3 quarts
dino oil 10W30. Now there are those of you out there that will ask why the
dino mix, I don't care to go there, that issue has been driven into the ground
already. What I wish to point out, is that the oil still looks fresh and
there has been no loss of oil and it's been about 2 months, can't say for sure
how many miles, as the car is still in the body shop due to a typical Audi
screw up with part numbers for the new door. I was losing oil the first year I
owned the car. I went through a "clean-up" cycle during the first 4 oil
changes. I used "Gunk" brand engine cleaner, you dump it in just before
changing the oil and run the engine (standing still) for 5 to 10 minutes, shut
it down and dump the oil. I had the car pointing nose down to make sure as
much dirty oil drained out as possible. I've also converted to the "OEM" brand
oil filter too. My driving consists of city streets, metro freeways and
interstate travel, I get around 22mpg in the city(with spirited driving) and
29mpg on the highway(not exactly following the speed limit either). Oh, I
guess I should point out that I have the manual trans and only front wheel
drive (wish I had the quattro)and almost 100K miles. So YES, that is excessive
oil consumption, I think this needs to be investigated closer.
