Re: 1996 A4 with 70K plus miles & S4/S6 vs. 1.8/2.8 Q

Is the 1.8T really much more fun to drive?

I agree 1000%. Even in stock form, the 1.8T is a nice
little engine which surprises most people with its
power. Add some boost and you have an engine that
rips.

I've been lucky enough to have driven my chipped 1.8T
back to back with stock 30v and chipped 30v A4s. Both
pull strong, but the chipped 1.8T has more available
torque in every gear, pulling hard without down
shifting.

I let a chipped 30v owner drive my car for several
miles... he said he regrets buying the 30v over the
turbo.

Now the S4/S6 comparo to a chipped 1.8T A4?
That's harder, I've never driven an S car. I've ridden
in one that makes 400+hp though and the owner has
driven my car. On the track, my exit speeds were within
2-5 mph of the modded S4. He lost me on the
straights...

Put a proper suspension on the A4 1.8T, add a chip and
exhaust to get ~210hp and you have a low-buck 'fake'
S-car.

That's my chipped 1.8 cents worth.
