Sorry, no knocking here. Get thee to a mechanic with access to a VAG 1551.
I would leave it overnight and have the mechanic hook up the diagnostics in
the morning.

  I have a 1995 90Q with 80K miles.  In the morning the motor tends to
  knock for a second or two.  Is this normal for the V6 to do when first
  started.  It is parked outside all the time now : ?(  I no longer have a
  place with a garage.  Temperature range is about 15-40 degrees when it
  happens.
