tranny down to 2 gears.

Our 91 100 seems to be going through a really hard time right now.
so far it needs new brakes, basically an entire new exhaust system. (both the
muffler and the resonator have fallen off).
And today the transmission will only run in two foreward gears.
The transmision has needed to be replaced about 50k or so ago, but it still
ran (besides we didnt have the $$$ to fix it)
So today it driving it seemed to be extrememly sluggish off a stoplight, and
only shifted once (very jerkily). Later when I got onto the highway it was
going 45mph and it redlined, couldn't get it to shift gears past 3rd.
I was just wondering if there is anything that we could do regain the 2 gears,
and if the only solution is to get a new transmission...well i guess we've
waited long enough.
BTW can you guess why I prefer stick to auto? grr.
