Front End Clunk Question

While I had my car suspended in mid-air as its belts
were being changed, I took the opportunity to look under
the car and observe what may have been causing the
front end clunk each time I made a turn to the right at
low speeds especially when making wide turns. It turns
out that the rubber boot on the right front is torn. Does
this rubber boot house the ball joint or does it house
the CV joint. Secondly is replacement a DIY job or is it
recommended that its best left to the mechs ? Any ideas
will be highly appreciated. The car in question is an 88
80Q. Thanks
