Re: Max Boost/HP? 87 5kcstq
OK....The 10v engine is able to handle up to 13psi, but the Intercooler is not
able to handle that. You would need to strap it down so it won't explode
apart. I won't suggest anything over 13psi with/o a CPU mod. You would be
running REAL lean if you did that. Chips cost about 200-425 depending on
where you go. I suggest IA(www.intendedacceleration.com). If you are going
to "Do it yourself"(DYI) then I would get a pressure regulator and bypast the
pressure to the CPU. I have heard alot of "talk" about this procedures, but
I'm running this and it been running good(except my Auto tranny can't take
it). The HPs added would be about 215HP or so, depending on what you have on
it now. I have heard these cars get tuned all the way up to 325 or more
HPs.(I think its IAs car that lives in Gold Bar, q-lister?) HTH,

lot of experience in tuning my American EFI car equipped with a 9 psi
supercharger, but need to learn about the Audi CIS way of doing things. I
am pretty familiar with VW CIS found on the 84 GTI, and the Audi system
seems pretty similar.
So far what I have learned is the US version has a computer and wastegate
setup for considerably less than the turbo and motor is capable of. The max
boost I see is about 1.3 Bar absolute (4 psi gauge). I run 8.5:1
compression ration in a Mustang 5.0 liter with 9 psi boost on 93 octane
without detonation, so I would think the Audi with 7.8:1 compression ratio
should be able to run 11-14 psi (1.8-2.0 Bar)without too much risk of
detonation. It appears the car is set up for some serious boost based on
the compression ratio, intercooler, oil cooler setup.
How much boost is the stock turbo good for?
What is involved in re-programming the computer for the additional boost?
How much does all this cost?
What level of Horsepower can be made with these mods?
What is a realistic power level for these cars with improvements such as
exhaust, intake and head work?
Thanks for the info fellow listers
