It has been :). Well, when I rattled about the same problem a year ago it 
had been discussed to death too.

There is no "easy" way! You have to use all your creativity. 

Things that might help are:

1. Remove the passenger side headlight
2. Make a loop from the steel wire for the stupid clips
3. You might think that the distributor assembly cannot be lifted simply 
topologically. I had the same impression at first. FIGHT IT! There is a 
way! You just have to play with it a lot and you will make it.

The change of air-filter took me 10 minutes in Golf and about 3 hours in 
4kq. Perhaps others are more talented.
