No battery, no radio, low milage

In a fit of total and complete brilliance, I managed to drain the battery
on my '90 CQ completely (left the lights on, having been...oh - never
mind *sigh*).

As a result, I'm now getting the "SAFe" error on my radio/cassette
player. I've tried following the <destructions> off of the 20v web
page, with no success at all.

(1) Apparently the VIN's supposed to be in the trunk somewhere, but if
it's there, someone's *really* good at hiding it - any hints?

(2) My 'stereo' has a forward and reverse scan button, but no combination
of buttons results in any sort of code appearing.

On to the other question. I seem to be averaging 440km/tank, and I'm
wondering if this is normal. My driving is mixed city/highway, but
the milage doesn't seem to change much, unless it's pure highway driving,
only.

Is there a particular rpm range that will help with the milage? I do have
a rather heavy foot...and some "enthusiasm" ;>

cheers!
