'83 CGT Tire sounds from rear

Hi All,
     Recently (last 1k mi. or so) I've noticed a loud noise coming from 
the rear of my '83 CGT.  It sounds like I'm driving in a truck with big 
tread on the tires.  Thinking at first it was a tire, I swapped out each 
rear tire w/ my full size spare.  Then I've swapped front tires to the 
rear and rears to the front.  The noise is still there.  Although there 
was no change in the noise when turning in one direction or another, I 
changed all 4 rear wheel bearings anyway.  The noise's still there.  
With the wheels off the ground, there's no play in them.  Brake drums & 
pads are 10k mi. old.  It's also difficult to tell if the noise is 
coming from the right, left, or both sides; but seems to be slightly 
louder on the right.   AFAIK, all suspension components in rear are 
original.  I can't think of too much else back there that can cause such 
a noise, so any suggestions?
