Several people have suggested your idea to me, so I'd say it is a
safe bet. Start the engine, pull the fuel pump relay, wait until the
engine dies. Then, maybe let it sit overnight. You'll probably want
to open the gas cap before you do the change, as the system is sealed
and actually becomes somewhat pressurized.
My problem was that I didn't get all the proper washers. The dealer
gave me -one- washer, and there seem to be about 4 washers in various
places...
