re Re 90q radiator fan motor problems

Thanks to all who have responded and offered suggestions and helpful advice
on my cooling fan motor. To summarize, the cooling fan motor on one of my
1988 90q's works only on high speed. The low speed circuit (pin2 to pin3)
is open circuit. Unfortunately, this vehicle (build date 11/87) has a
different connector (wire bail) to the motor than my other 1.6 vehicles,
which use a side snap arrangement. The slightly newer motors are labled 431
959 455L; the earlier bad motor does not have a lable, but seems to be
newish, corrosion wise. The fiche shows 165 959 455 AE as the replacement,
but also says "also use" 357 972 773, 742A, and 742B. Anyone know the
differences among these motors, if any?

The fiche also lists a "flat contact housing" 357 972 773, a female blade
terminal housing 191 906 232B, and its protective cap 191 927 907. Anyone
know anything about these that would allow me to make an interface between
the two connector styles; I really don't want to try to do a splice in that
area?

Anyone know if the fan motor can be disassembled. The low speed failure is
undoubtedly the series resistor built into the motor. (The obvious resistor
located on the fan shroud is for the afterrun circuit.)
