My POINT was that no true, proven, high performance engine uses the small
bore, long stroke method of engine making. It puts a lot of stress on the
rods and crank, and results in many more problems. Audi has a HORRIBLE
efficiency (BMEP i believe) with their engines, and that is why most
people have to run 3.0 bar of boost to get major power.
That is my problem...not all that thorough, but basically that

What is major power? To get a Honda to put out 350 hp you need to stuff it
with 30PSI of boost, of course with that kind of power you need a custom head
high po bottom end pieces a turbo and a load of $$$$$. A 5000T engine will
yield ~240-250 Hp with a chip change and a trunk full of intercoolers. An S
4 engine will crank out 300 hp with a simple chip replacement, and 350 is a
turbo change away. If you want more than 500 horsepower buy a supercharged
mustang or camaro and don't drive it in the rain.
Power produced by Audi's V6 and 1.8T aren't that far off from the car
manufacturers that Audi is competing with. Since Audi's are intended to be
daily drivers and have an operating range below 6000 RPM you need some torque
hence the longer stroke. Note a F 1 engine is built for one purpose, top
speed, hence horsepower. Those things spin up to 14,000 RPMs with a
relatively small displacement similar to motorcycles, a long rod engine
spinning at that speed will be a no rod engine real soon another point those
F 1 engines are generally used once for the duration of the race.
Plus a long rod engine allows the engine to physically fit better in
the confines of the engine compartment, when you increase and engine's bore
(beyond what the block can accept) you add length as well as width to the
block, with an increase in stroke you only add height.
Sure Audi can build a twin turbo single supercharged nitrous
injected, intercooled A4 engine that will spin up to 20,000 RPM and produce
1300 horsepower that needs a rebuild after every stop light but at a cost!
Speed costs money how fast you want to go!
