I agree.  Just cut the wires to remove (if it were only that easy!). 
When installing you want to be able to put the wires somewhere.

Of course, all the stock o2 sensors are mounted *on top* of something,
making life *miserable*.  Mine is mounted sideways into the pipe form
downpipe to cat ($8 OXS bung welded in) and I can just hank on it with
an open end wrench.
