This is a common problem and is popping up on most of our cars.
(from the mid-90s anyway)

I haven't plugged in the 1551/2 to my car yet, but the local
service guy claimed it was because the airbag light bulb is
bad.  Me - "if it's bad, how could it be lighting up?"

I've checked Bentley and there is not that much info on the 
system.  Even my independent Audi expert is puzzled by this
phenomenon.  There's something in there that is getting checked
and most likely bypassed, as my light goes out after 2-3 mins.
