Re: 200 TQ had bad thermostat, now no cooling fan...FIXED
...I hope.
I replaced the thermo switch and the 80A fuse strip last night. The car
ran fine on the 25 mile commute in to work today. Not sure how the
failure of all three areas (incl. the thermostat) was directly related,
but must have been to an extent. One datapoint: that 80A fuse strip in
the radiator fan wiring (located just under the overflow tank) had been
mostly broken for a while - only about 20% of the ends looked like a
fresh break. I actually think my fiddling in that area finished it off,
as opposed to melting from current draw. So, a lesson - just because you
see that fuse strip sitting there looking ok, actually feel it to see
how robust it is.
Thanks for all the replys to my problem (John, Tony, Chris, Peter, and
anyone I've missed).
