CGT Stock Radio Replacement

I'm looking into replacing my cassette radio player with a cd player.
  My questions are:
1) Am I mistaken in believing that a radio that will fit into a 4k will also
fit into a CGT (of the same model year) given the similarities in the dashes?
2) Does anyone know the dimensions of the stock radio in a CGT, so
that I can make a choice as to the upgrade? 3) Any BTDT's

I installed an Alpine 7802 CD/Tuner this weekend in my 86 CGT. It fit
perfectly with depth to spare. According to the manual, the dimensions are:

Chassis, W-178mm(7") H-50mm(2") Depth-153mm(6")
Nosepiece, W-171mm(6 3/4") H-48mm(1 7/8") Depth-23mm(15/16")

It took some very minor filing to square the corners of the console to fit
the Alpine sleeve that the deck locks into. I also cut the head off of about
a 2" bolt and placed a stop nut on it on back of the deck. To this I added
the rubber mount from the original radio that slides into the metal chassis
at the back of the console to hold the deck steady. As I said, there was
depth to spare with my deck. It probably didn't need it, but it has quite a
solid fit now.

If you are running wires to rear speakers or an amp, there is a nice plastic
channel on the drivers side floor under the carpet that contains other wiring.

The front dash speakers are removed with two screws from the bottom that can
be accessed by removing the glove compartment(s) and side vents. Mine were
shot, and unfortunately are molded into the grilles. I cut away all the
plastic that holds in the factory speakers with the exception of the screw
towers and tore out the old speakers. I then filed the bottom of the grilles
flat and sandwiched some 3 1/2 speakers between the grilles and dash and put
the screws back in the grilles pulling everything flush again.

Good Luck
