from my experience working in mfg., this is 100% possible.  starts with 'well we
had the first lot in as of xyz date and the last lot on abc date'.  ok, well how
about the pallet of eval parts that came in before that and ended up in
production, or the lost box of parts that was put back into the line 3 months
later when it resurfaced...

unfortunately there is a huge communication gap here - Bosch almost certainly
has a part number or lot or rev number that some Ingolstadt engineer has his
hands on, but that wasn't deemed important to pass on to dealers, let alone
customers...  arrrgh.  i hate business stupidity.
