Re: back differential leaks

Hi Maksim;

    Differential leaks at the axle hubs are fairly common on older high
mileage cars. The axle flange seal needs replacing.
    The gearbox (and middle & front differentials) uses a synthetic Audi G50
75w90 oil or equivalent. The rear differential uses a mineral hypoid oil or
a synthetic oil, but not usually the same oil as the gearbox due to the
expense of the gearbox oil. I don't know if the gearbox oil can be used in
the rear differential, but I do know that the synthetic rear differential
oil cannot be used in the gearbox (says so right on the bottle!).
