all sortsa problems....

I have a few problems with my 86 5kstq that I was wondering if anyone
could help me out with.
Since I bought the car it has run rich and I put it off for a little while
until I could bring it to a mech. to have it checked out. I brought it in
and two weeks later the only thing that was found to be faulty was the
ignition switch which I knew about anyway. For a mere $92 I had a car
that would turn over nicely but not always start. The ignition system,
vaccuum lines and fuel system were all checked and the only thing
discovered was a faulty check valve. This would explain the hard starts,
but the mixture, which was within spec. is still really rich. I was also
told the turbo was very weak and only putting out a few pounds of
pressure, although I am getting about 1.3 bar and plenty of power up
around 3-3.5K rpm.
Presently the cold start valve is not connected because it needs
to be replaced and I do not have a problem starting the car without it
when cold. If the car sits for any longer than 15 minutes after driving
it will not start for up to an hour. There is a really strong smell of
gas if I try starting at this point. Once I finally get it to start I
cannot do so without having my foot floored on the gas, what that does I
don't know. Once it starts it will not idle smoothly unless I have my
foot on the gas. I have changed the roter, cap, wires, and switched the
pulgs from the bosch platinum that were in it to NGK tri-electrodes.
This is the only problem I have been having with this car, and I
love it. If anyone could help me out with any ideas that would be great.
I am not in a position to get rid of it and I know if I do I will hate
myself for a while.
I am sick of smoking people out from a stop with all the black
smoke and god only knows what harm I am doing by continuing to drive it in
this condition, other than making a hole in my pocket for 20 gallons every
four days or about 300+ miles.

TIA,
Nate Brown
