FI seal life? (vacuum leaks...)

Today I was out playing in the sun, with the thought that I think I have
some vacuum leaks in the back of my mind (warm and cold best running set
up seem to be different, for starters)

Disconnected dist vac advance with engine running (at idle), no change.
So either that line is all plugged up or it's leaking like a sieve,
right?

then a little later I decided to rinse off a winter's worth of misc salt
stains under the hood. Did it with the engine cold but running - hosed
off the spark plug areas, distributor, alll kinds of places, no changes
in running - but when I sprayed water on the top of the infold manitake,
the car would stumble badly and only run if I held the throttle open by
hand for a minute.

Injector sels leaking air? manifold gasket leaking? Ideas?

I replaced the seals about 2 years, 40k miles ago. Could they be going
bad already?

thanks.

Oh, PS, I also need a life. Pix of my two previous Audis on my site
now... and the afterrun radiator fan mod info someone requested.
