Overboost solved
Thanks to Orin, Mike Veglia, Steve Buchholz, Phil, Bob Myers, Tony Lum,
Gary Lewis, and Dave Head for advice on diagnosing the overboost problem
I was having on my 5kcstq. The wastegate diaphragm seemed to hold vacuum
and the lines all looked all right... well, it turned out that the WGFV
- WG hose wasn't really a hose anymore. The end at the WG was almost
solid, whether from getting kinked or heat or some combination.
I had been checking the WG diaphragm by hooking the vacuum pump up to
this hose, and it held vacuum just fine. Then I removed the hose, and it
by itself sort of held vacuum too. I should've known that something was
up when it only took a pump or two to get a very low pressure on the
pump gauge.
With the blocked section trimmed and the hose reinstalled, everything
works properly again. Thanks again to everyone for your help, and
hopefully others will find that their problems are as simple and cheap
to fix.
