i had the similar rhythmic rumble and resolved it by regreasing the cv's. to
do the without a major repair, i made up a 10" length of 1/8" brake line. to
this i brazed on a zerk fitting on one end. i then flattened the other end
and rounded the sharp corners. filled my grease gun with cv grease and
pumped ~ 20 shots into each joint from the small side of the boot. on the
outers the clamp must be removed. i replaced it with a standard stainless
hose clamp. if the boot is really old but in good shape it may be stuck
quite tightly to the shaft. a long narrow common screwdriver with a rounded
tip can be wiggled under the stuck boot and the grease tool slid in
alongside it.
