Hi Jeff;
The most likely cause of this problem is a sticky solenoid. The current
(from the ignition switch in "start" position) pulls the solenoid in and the
return spring is not strong enough to disengage it when the ignition switch
returns to "run", keeping the starter running. The fix is a new solenoid.
You could also have a defective ignition switch which continues to pass
current to the solenoid after the switch returns to the "run" position, but
this is less likely.
