Subject: Erase times for 27C64
Anyone know how long these things take?
I know, I know - it depends on bulb power and wavelength. People seem
to be leading me towards an hour.
What we settled on was 15 minutes to reliably erase EEPROMs. This was
a good "lab" eraser, handles a dozen chips at a time. Home "hobbyist"
erasers could easily take 2-4 times longer, although I find it to
believe "an hour" (but I've never had to deal with a "cheap" eraser).
Experiment. Fry 'em for 10 minutes, put one in your programmer and
read it back. All "ff" values is erased. The more more "0" bits you
see, the less erased it is. Once you find what seems to erase it,
add a coupla minutes and you're generally set.
