VW Quantum help

Gang,

I need some help. A fellow in the Austin VW/Audi club was "given" a
1986 VW Quantum (5-cyl). The catch is that the car hasn't run in two
years. Since I am the only Audi guy in the Austin VW/Audi club, I
offered to help fix it up. Of course, I figured the engine and fuel
injection system was just like the 4Kq, but leave it to VW to redesign
much of the entire darn car. :-(

Unlike the 4000/CGT, the fuel pump is not under the car. If I am right,
it appears to be in the fuel tank itself, accessible by removing a cover
plate in the trunk. However, it has three wires running to it
(red/yellow, black/purple, and brown), and I do not know how they
control the pump (brown is ground, I know). The engine is not getting
any fuel, and I cannot hear the fuel pump when the engine is cranking
or when I apply power directly to the fuse. I suspect a wiring
problem or dead fuel pump.

If anyone can explain the Quantum's fuel pump to me (and how to remove
it, as well), I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Eric
