I was thinking the same thing. Look for a common ground point 
for the autocheck circuits (under dash, driver's left side?). 
If it's complaining about brake lights only, you could have a 
slight resistance back there. Mine did when I first got it, but 
swapping the bulbs side-to-side fixed it (reseating them is 
probably enough).
