Re: ignition upgrade
I've got one of their "Hyper" coils or what ever they call them. Used it on my
'85 Toyota Pickup, purchased it after the Accel Super Coil I was using started
arcing. Never had external arcing problems with the Jacobs unit. Ran it until I
sold the truck, then pulled it and reverted everthing back to stock.
Definitely gives you a hotter spark, but you have to be careful as the voltage
is enough to jump out of poor condition ignition wires. I used aftermarket
silicon high temp insulated ignition wires. I also used stock NGK plugs gapped
.05 inch over OEM and had no problems burning out plugs or pistons, and the
head was off the motor at one point.
I paid just over $200 for mine (about 8 years ago), the wire that grounds the
OEM coil has seen better days, but the rest is in good shape It's up for grabs
for $100 plus shipping. You may need to get a new wire to ground the OEM coil
or backwards engineer one of your own. My problem with the ground wire is that
the stock ignition would burn through the insulation before the resistor that
absorbs the power, I can't remember if I solved that problem completely or not.
I remember my bandaid fix was to just wrap more electrical tape around the arc
point and keep driving.
I've got no use for it, my '93 90S uses three coils, one for each pair of
cylinders.
