Why was peral white discontinued? Across all models?

I did notice that the pearl used on older models, predating the 92 model
year was a different type of pearl. More yellow/beige? Is this true. I'm
more
particularly referring to the 86 and up 5kt and q's.

What is the paint process involved in a Pearl White car compared to a
normal metallic car?
