Re: Does German Cars cost more in Germany?

Sorry, but your friend is correct. Be it taxes or whatever, cars are
significantly more expensive in Germany than they are here. I don't have
any exact figures on hand, but when I was living in Germany I did the math
on what two identically equipped BMW 325's would cost in Germany vs. the US,
and in Germany it came out around $10,000 more (at 1.7dm/$). I had heard of
Germans who would actually come to the US to buy a Mercedes SL and ship it
back to Germany because it was cheaper.

Subject: Does German Cars cost more in Germany?

Had an argument last night with my friends. A German friend of mine owns a
98 MercedeB S 600 and he claims that in Germany it cost more than he bought
it here. I had a hard time believing that. Wouldn't it be cheaper, due to
the shipping taken out and the import taxes? Why would they want their own
country to pay more for the same car? Please confirm this, I have money
riding on this one.....=P
