I used to use that procedure on the crappy radio in my '87 5KTQ.
Right up to the night I was concentrating heavily on "adjusting" the radio at
80 m/h and looked up to see a deer in the road ahead. Got slowed down a lot
and I **almost** missed her. $1300 later the car was back in good shape.
I did not turn on the radio again for several months, when I replaced
it with an aftermarket unit putting about 120 watts to the speakers. The
aftermarket unit has never required any "adjustments". Haven't hit any deer
since then, either.

	After while.
