In my case, it was about 3,000 miles from first noticing the puff in
the rear view mirror to the turbo actually dying.
If I'd known what was happening, I'd have changed it ASAP - in the end
the blades interfered with the casing and sent a load of shrapnel into
the intercooler and inlet manifold.
