Welcome, this list has been a great help to me and a joy to participate
with.

Sounds typical for a used car dealer/seller -- when the mouth moves, lies
come out :-)
My Audi consumes essentially no oil in 1000 km. I change the oil every
5000km or so, and can detect no use. My '88 5kcstq has 384000 km on it.

It may not be serious, but it can be a big pain to deal with. I have an '86
Ford Bronco that has a bad front seal, and leaks about a liter in 1000km.
The driveway has a big oil spot under the Bronco, and the underside is
covered with oil. The back of the Bronco gets oil spots on it when driven
above 100km/h. You can always tell where I have parked, and I have been
banned from parking on some friend's driveways :-)
Check the engine compartment, and underneath the car. If it is loosing oil
this fast, you should be able to see lots of fresh oil covering parts of the
engine and underneath the car. Check the front seal area, and check the
rear seal -- look at the interface between the engine and transmission.
Double check the amount of oil with the seller, too. Perhaps he mis-stated
the amount.
