Leaded fuel

My 1981 80 (WE) has been run on leaded fuel since new. This is still
readily available in Australia, but at a small cost premium to encourage
owners of older vehicles to switch. There's a list put together by the
gov't of older vehicles which can happily run on ULP, which shows for
Audi:

  Model Year
  80,Fox 1977 On
  100, 5E 1978-79

which I'll take as a yes for the 80 but I can't see any reason for 100
being excluded (didn't the two share an engine?). Can anyone offer any
opinions about the benefits of leaded fuel to the engine? Any reason I
should keep using it? (There's plenty of reasons not to...)
