Re: 91 200tq FIRE

The ITT powered speakers are in quite few different late 80s and early 90s
Audis. I had them in my 88 80q which _did not_ have the Bozo sound system.

I am not surprised that a fire hazard could exist as the output ICs are
integral with the speakers and them little devices can blow their tops and
burst into flames...

There have been a number of reports also I have read on the list of bad
solder connections in these amplifier circuits, symptoms include popping and
cutting out. I can easily see how with cracked solder connections these
amplifiers could put as much as 12VDC onto the speaker coils and have
"Spontaneous Speaker Combustion" that Huw described.

So folks, if you have still the ITT powered speakers in your car and
experience any of the popping or cutting out symptoms...it may be a good idea
to ditch 'em or at least check the amp boards for cracked connections. Fire
extinguisher ain't a bad idea either.
