RE: A4 AND THE REST.



What could be the case is that there is a significant enough reduction in
exhaust temperature between the inlet and outlet of the muffler.  Given the
universal gas law you can get the same mass down a smaller pipe if you
reduce temperature.  The motivation for dual exhausts is to provide a
greater cross sectional area for the exhaust to pass through without having
to go to a larger diameter pipe.  Do you know if the outlet diameter on that
first muffler is larger than the inlet pipes?

There are a few Audis which do have dual exhausts all the way through.  I
know the 200q/20v has them as does the V8.  Since they connect together at
the resonator/muffler (at least on the V8, with which I am more familiar) it
is my assumption that the dual pipes are there only to provide the
additional cross section, each exhaust is not individually tuned.
