Electrical Problem

I have a 1984 Audi 4000s quattro. recently the fuel pump went out on it, and 
after the pump was changed another problem presented itself. the problem is 
that the car will not start. There is no power going to the fuel pump, also 
the power windows, sun roof, horn, power locks, lights, and turn signals are 
not working. I have heard that if the fuel pump goes out, it also shorts out 
something in the electrical system. If anyone has had this similiar problem, 
or just knows why the car will not start, could you please let me know. Thank
