A4 2.8Q still "vibrates" over bumps after lower control arms replaced
Hi folks,
So much good advice from fellow mailing list participants has
gotten me to the point where most of my 1997 A4 2.8Q front-end problems
have been resolved, even under Audi standard warranty (which has
another 100 miles to go :). Still, it's not quite back in best shape,
so I'm hoping for a bit more help on this issue.
On the 5th consecutive visit for front-end problems, I replaced my
Bridgestone S-02 Pole Positions with Dunlop SP9000s at Pray Audi in
Greenwhich, CT (new shop for me), and they decided to also replace r/l
lower control arms, re-do the wheel alignment and adjust the brakes.
Most clunking, wandering, understeer and rolling noise are gone. What
I'm left with is
[1] a bit of oversteer (tolerable)
[2] "loose" steering wheel feel; not as heavy and centered as it once
was (tolerable)
[3] a disconcerting vibration from the suspension and up through the
steering wheel column when travelling over even small bumps
(intolerable)
Any ideas what it may be? This vibration was present even before the
changes Pray Audi effected in the last service. I don't care if it's
out of warranty soon, as I'd just like the old ride quality back.
BTW, I like the Dunlops - very smooth and quiet!
Sincerely,
- Wade
