RE: A couple of things - Allergic to my audi

2) The car does not seem to be able to get rid of harmful byproducts
cleanly. Each time I drive around, after about 10 mins, both the skin on my
face and my eyes start to burn and my lips feel very dry. I dont smell or
see
anything. So, I thought, maybe it is CO. I replaced the entire exhaust
system (mufflers, cat, O2 sensor) over the last weekend, but the problem
persists. Any ideas where and/or what might be causing this ? I know
its not me, since I feel fine when I travel in my friend's car.

A couple of things to ck. 1) The most common problem is a leaking heater
core. Ck under your floor mats for wet carpet, that is usually the first
symptom. If it's slow leak, you may have to get into the airbox to find the
fluid. This stuff, when blown in your face, gets pretty bad. Sometimes the
symptoms are "foggy" windshield and/or a dirty film on the windshield. 2)
Slight leakage in the steering rack is a big problem for audis. Leaking
steering racks usually drip right on the catalytic converter, creating a very
subtle but nasty steam. 3) Make sure both the firewall to engine bay cover
has no cracks in it, and the rubber sealing strip is in good shape. Running
engines smell, these to items are to prevent that from getting to your nose.
4) Make sure you have no leaks at your valve cover, the tilted I5 drips VC
oil right onto exhaust manifolds. 5) Make sure your hydraulic pump, lines
and bomb are all tight and oil free. All these oils work backwards during
high speed driving, eventually finding something hot (like exhaust parts) to
evaporate on. 6) Make sure you have no leaks in the antifreeze lines (see
5). 7) Ck the operation of the radiator expansion tank cap, these can be
hard to trace. My suggestion is that you put some talc around the cap on the
ET, drive around, ck to see if it's dry. Get the black cap from the dealer
(not the blue one), they last longer.

This is more common than you think, and the above is my cklist for same
customer complaints. Burning any of the above fluids, creates a very
unhealthy enclosed air chamber for all in the cabin.

Good luck, let us know what you find.
