Rear Diff Locks - 86 4KQ
Just bought my third Audi (First was an 86 Commemorative Edition Coupe GT
(complete with red leather interior), second was a 87 4KCS, and the latest
is an 86 4KCSQ) The only problem with the Quattro is the rear diff is stuck
locked. When I test drove it initially, it was not locked up, but after
the test drive I checked the diff locks and the rear stayed locked, after I
spun the dial.
Any suggestions on (a) how to get it unlocked now so I can drive the
vehicle, and
(b) what should I do to restore smooth
operation of the rear diff lock.
Center diff lock works just like it should.
Parts are pretty easy to come by, since for some reason, the local junkyard
1/2 mile down the raod from me seems to have a lot of Audis at all times
(kinda wierd considering I live in rural Eastern North Carolina)
Incidentally it rained about 2" here in an hour, flooding the local dirt
road, so I took my newest Audi down it (with both diff locks engaged) and
to my surprise it chugged right on thru, leaving (to the dismay of the
people who live on the road) twin tracks about 4" deep, and covering the
sides of the Audi with dirt from the spinning wheels.
