Trany Change
Finally someone with my same exact problem, different car but same
problem. I have a 1988 80 Auto and bought her for $2,000. Only had
17,000 Miles on her when I got it. Sweet bodywork, paint, trim, extra
wheel cover(just bought another one)... I have done some $6,500 worth of
damage to my wallet on this car getting all the rotten and broken
components fixed, and subtract some $1700 in stereo from that total. I
want to switch the trany, RS2 conversion, exhaust, suspension is on the
way from Germany... People think I'm insane or just plain dumb because it
is an 80 Automatic, people say go get a used 90q20v and then tweak that
out, or go and get a 5000tq for power. Why? My car has 11 years under
her belt and only 36,000 miles on the odometer, why get rid of a gem like
that is what I say! Plus an 80 series Auto still alive with only 36,000
miles on it is a rare thing to see, and I own it, plus it's my first car.
I'm a little attached at this point. BUT I say DO IT, change that
transmission! I will eventually do my trany too, no matter what the cost.
I hope others agree that keeping a car that isn't exactly what you
want with low mileage and good service records is better than getting a
high mileage beaten on, who knows where it's been 90q20v or 5000tq cause
it gots power or a stick shift. I love my 80 but hey the automatic is a
doggy component, woof woof.
