I was the recipient of that Kindly ol' Unka Bart discourse quoted by Mr.
Liggins, following an accident with my '91 200q about 18 months ago. More
recently (earlier this week) I found myself using these same "Unka Bart
mantras" while cruising home on the NYS Thruway. As traffic thinned out
ahead of me in a mile-long straightaway, I  gave in to a little voice (was
it you, Unka Bart?) that said:

"Do NOT lift!  Do NOT lift! Do NOT lift..." (of course this mantra was
intended for an *entirely* different context, but heck, good mantras are
hard to come by, ya know.) :)

and  a few seconds later, when I realized I'd been zapped by laser-robocop,
I recited the other mantra:

--"OH SHIT!  OH SHIT! OH SHIT! "--which once again was *absolutely* no help
at all. But at least the damage this time was merely to pride and
pocketbook, not assorted body panels. :(
