Burying the 951 horse

With all the bandwidth we wasted last week talking about this proceedure, I
figured I would at least let anyone who was interested know how it went. And
with the weather finally cooling down a bit here in Chicagoland, what better
time to do the timing belt on the 951. Perfect Fathers day project...

The car: 1986 944 turbo. onehundredfortyhappythousand miles

The Mission: replace timing belt, balance belt, and all associated
roller/idlers.

11:00 car on the alignment rack, airbox and timing covers on their way
out.

12:00 all old parts removed, housings and covers in the solvent tank
for cleanup.

13:00 timing referrences verified, assembly started.

14:00 belts are tensioned, re-verified timing, initial starting of car.

14:30 everything buttoned up and the car hits the road.

All in all not bad for a "2 day job". There was even time in there to
remove a rattling heat shield (the biggest challenge), change transaxle
fluid, and an oil change.
Granted, we didn't change the water pump, but it was done recently due to the
updated style of pump, and it was the only clean piece of metal under the
hood. My judgement call, guess I'll gamble.

Happy motoring
