popular mechanics cd-rom (v8); fiche to cd rom

TWO PART MESSAGE: 1. saw 'book review' on list here a few days ago - i think
it was about 'chilton's' with reference to audis... if that reference was to
'popular mechanics', series, forgive duplication here, but count it as a
reinforcement... if this is new, though, consider it another angle for us to
avoid dealers...

at auto-zone today i saw popular mechanics cd-rom's which included claims for
many imports, and specifically audi models - (i noticed v8 quattro singled
out, but there were several models cited).... system is you buy the cd,
($20) - which covers many cars, then take it home and phone in for password
to get acces to information on the car of your choice on the cd. if you
want to get info on 2 or 3 cars, you pay for extra codes (@$20) to get access
to each other car or model... i did not buy (yet - probably will, for v8Q
info).... examples at the store were excelent - nissan timing chain - -
Has anyone tried it for audi stuff?

PART 2: bob myer has let it be known he is assembling group of v8-ers from
list to share cost of transferring fiche (from VAG, I think) to cd rom -
dealing with legals, etc, as well as production questions - bears reminding,
i think, since I saw lister ask for spare fiche copy recently... cd-rom
readers are a lot more prolific than fiche readers nowadays...
