wow.  just got knocking around on the vw/audi tech site and am surprised
that they make these publicly available.  remarkable.  how long before
they password protect the site i wonder?

random items of note that i've never seen mentioned before:

1) as has been well documented already,  96-98.5 (or so) heated mirrors
are stupidly on ALL the time and so burn out quickly.  NEWS:
superceding part includes a thermo-switch.  lucky for my A4's new owner
as i just got 2 new mirrors on warranty. C 66-99-02

2) audi will cover a one time re-coding of central locking options under
warranty. C 01-98-07

3) for pre-98.5 1.8T's (they have a VIN break) if the turbo fails, there
is a new oil supply line with heat shield.  you'd think you would want
that BEFORE the turbo fails... C 21-98-01

interestingly no note of the other reported 1.8T turbo problems:
wastegate rod breakage and turbo-IC hose failure.
