RE: 4x108 wheels

I ran into some problems with 15" wheels for my '86 4kq. I bought a set
of MB Motoring MB6 15x7 wheels from Discount Tire Direct with 205/50 R15
tires. The wheels rubbed in the rear fenders even though they told me they
would fit. I did have the car lowered with H&R's, but that shouldn't
matter. I called them and told them what was going on, and they agreed to
send me a new set of wheels. The wheels are MiM Vento 15x6.5 wheels, which
are 1/2" narrower. I put the 205/50 R15 tires on, and no rubbing! The
wheels were a little more expensive, but they look much better, and have a
much better ride. I believe both the MiM's and the MB Motoring wheels have
an offset of 35mm. My old stock 14x6 wheels had 205/60 R14's, and the
inside of the tire just barely cleared the tie rod. There sure isn't much
room between the tie rod and the wheel well for a 15x7 wheel, but the
15x6.5 fit just right.
I don't know whether the 80 series has similar wheel well clearance, but I
just want to warn you what little differences in wheel dimensions can make
on fit. I went from loud rubbing noises over every significant bump to a
nice smooth, quiet ride. That's just my .02.
